What’s On My Shelf: Switch On Your Brain

What I’m reading and why I recommend you read it too!

📚 Book Title: Switch On Your Brain

📖 Author: Dr. Caroline Leaf

⭐ Why I Love It: Dr. Leaf uses science and medical research to PROVE how the word of God can heals and transforms our brain. In case study, after case study she demonstrates that there IS HOPE even for the dementia patient. And that when scripture is intentionally applied to our thought processes we can strengthen our DNA and rewire our neuro pathways! It’s fascinating and faith building!

✨ Favorite Quote:"Through our thoughts we can be our own micro surgeons as we make choices that will change the circuits of our brains. We are designed to do our brain surgery and rewire our brains by thinking and choosing to renew our minds. [As scripture says] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… (Romans 12:2)”

🎯 Who Should Read It? This is a must for every Bible Quiz Coach. I wish I’d had a copy of this when I was coaching. Oh the recruiting tool it would have been! But this book is for anyone who desires to sharpen their mind mentally, physically, and spiritually. This book gives you such understanding in how your brain works and why God’s word is the absolute anecdote to every brain ailment you or a loved one may be facing.

Thoughts are real, physical things that occupy mental real estate.

Eric R. Kandel, a Nobel Prize winning neuropsychiatrist for his work on memory, shows how our thoughts, even our imaginations, get under the skin of our DNA and can turn certain genes on and certain genes off, changing the structure of the neurons in the brain.

This underscores the concept that our mental activities can influence genetic expression, highlighting the profound connection between our thoughts and brain structure.
