What I’m reading and why I recommend you read it too!
📚 Book Title: How to Forgive, When It's Hard to Forget
📖 Author: Joy Haney
⭐ Why I Love It: I picked this book up to better understand the complexity of forgiveness when the human mind simply cannot forget. The author gives relatable and practical navigation of releasing resentment or bitterness. With several real-life examples, it offers emotional connection and encouragement for spiritual growth. This book changed my perspective on forgiveness and cultivated a greater sense of empathy and compassion - for both others and myself.
✨ Favorite Quote: "Instead of holding counsel with the destroyer and dwelling on the hurts, replace the well-worn tape with a fresh one from the Word of God. It never fails to inspire, uplift, and give hope. His Word is the thing that brings you health. "Why so cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God" (Ps. 42:11). If you need a cure for a mind that is disturbed, disquieted, and in turmoil, Joshua gives the formula for living successfully by not allowing the turbulence of life to affect you. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" Joshua 1:8" (p. 138)
🎯 Who Should Read It? This is a great read for any believer facing struggles with forgiveness or leader looking for additional resources in guiding others on the journey of forgiveness. From the wisdom imparted in Chapters 10-12 on accepting God's Fire (anointing), Banking the Fire (in prayer), Cleaning out the Ashes (bitterness), to the Recovery from Burns (wounds) in Chapter 13 and on the the Wholeness found in Chapters 14-17 "The Refiner's Fire", "Hot Prayers", "Mind on Fire", and "Praise in the Fire" this small, easy-to-read book is a game-changer and definitely a heavy hitter!
📌 Where to Get It: Amazon or Pentecostal Publishing
Dr. Alexis Carrel made this statement, "As a physician, I have seen men, after all other therapy had failed, lifted out of disease and melancholy by the effort of prayer. When we address God in fervent prayer, we change both soul and body for the better." (p. 127; Watson, Light from Many Lamps, p. 67.)
There is undeniable power in prayer - regardless of what the ailment, whether physical, mental, emotional - the effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16)
You will never be the person you can be if pressure, trials, and struggles are taken out of your life, so determine to praise God for the better person He is allowing you to become. (p. 148)
